Spelling Bee-atch: Talking Heads “Brûléeing” Down the House

Well, possums, them Bravo folks cain’t seem ta spell them damn furrin Eyetaleean and Frenchie words. And they sure do seem averse to hyphens, too.

At this rate, we are crossing our fingers and waiting for the day when they leave the second “i” out of the name of Jeff McInnis’ restaurant.

Ah, the Dildo Club.

And while we’re on the subject of Jeff McInnis, why is it that Jeff gets the “c” in his last name capitalized, whereas the first “i” in Rocco DiSpirito’s name is lower case?

Probably because Rocco has it in his contract.

Thank you for this post, Charlus, although I must say Episode 3 annoyed me even more on this front. Who would contractually wish to lowercase “lamb” in Ariane’s “lamb Soup with Cous Cous”? The folks might have done well to be more averse to hyphens when labeling Gene’s dish “Maple Smoked Pork Loin with Apple Chili-Chutney,” and why split “cous” from “cous” and “chick” from “pea” (in Jamie’s “Scented Chick Pea Soup with Cilantro Yogurt”)?

To add insult to PIKAGing, Richard’s “Banana S'mores with Chocolate Granache” suffered from an extraneous “r,” and Radhika’s dish was redundantly described as “veggie vegan” (as opposed to carnivorous vegan?).

But two others take the, er, cake: Danny’s “Mushroom and Leak Soup with Ham and Egg” or Jeff’s “Pumpkin Mouse.” I don’t know which sounds more unappetizing as misspelled.

Note to Bravo: Please find thee a copyeditor. It ain’t that hard.

I'd take Julia Child and Justin Wilson in a spelling bee against these jagoffs any day of the week. And their cooking is probably better, too.

I'm SO GLAD I'm not the only one who sees "Dildo Beach Club" every time Jeff's caption comes up.

I haven't been paying much attention to the typos, and that surprises me. I'm usually obsessed.

Anyway, I have one tiny amendment: In French, it's perfectly acceptable to omit accents on capitalized letters. I don't know about other languages, though.

czar, I gar-ronn-teeeeee it.

Hell, add furriners like Jacques Pepin and Gordon Ramsay (who might not be able to spell "cat" but he sure as hell knows how to "FUCK!"

Interesting observations..I never noticed the punctuation difference in the last names but I had to take a second look at the Dilido. ha.

I think it's supposed to be spelled like this: DiLido Club. ha.ha.
