Watch What "Wasn't Going to Happen": Judge Colicchio Hands Down a Verdict

From Tom Colicchio's Bravo blog:

The sight of Sam yukking it up or Ilan yelling, "Get him! Get him!" from behind the camera was just as disturbing as the sight of Cliff tackling a stunned and terrified Marcel on the floor. And I'm not willing to hold Elia blameless just because she wasn't in the room -- I know she heard the others entreating her to join them, so she must have heard Marcel calling out for help. The whole thing brought to mind that famous quote, "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing." Any one of them could have spoken up and said, "This isn't cool, guys. Knock it off."

But they didn't, so as far as I was concerned they were all to blame and I was ready to send the lot of them home and let Marcel win by default.

For the first time all season, the Producers stepped in with a veto. Sending all of the chefs but Marcel home wasn't going to happen.

Tom was absolutely right. Couldn't agree more. Too bad the producers didn't do the right thing.

i also agree with tom. the producers were only thinking about the show. they wanted a big finale. according the rules, the three of them should have been disqualified and marcel should have won by default.

is it just me or they making a lot of exceptions this season. it reminds me of betty during the glucose competition. i listened to mikey's interview and he said they are very specific when explaining the rules of each of the competition. there was no way that she didn't understand the rules.

somehow, i can't understand why they thought this so called "prank" was acceptable. every move is being taped. you would think they would try to act in a professional manner knowing that possible employers might be watching this.

marcel probably experienced the greatest stress during filming. day after day, his fellow contestants verbally abused him. eventually, it would lead to cliff assaulting him and the other contestants laughing during the attack. somehow he was able to keep his composure and act professionally. i have lost my respect for sam, elia, and ilan.

ITA, and wish the remaining three got a bigger punishment than the wrist-slap at Judges' Table. Well, at least their egos have to be taking a beating, given that Tom, Gail, Padma, and numerous bloggers have voiced their disgust in print - Ilan, Cliff and Sam can talk ad infinitum to the press about how annoying Marcel was, but this just reflects more and more on them. There's some comfort in the fact that a chef of Tom Colicchio's stature said that he's lost respect for each of them and would not invest in any venture started by the finalists' is out there and is going to follow them around professionally. That should take the smug smirk off Ilan's face for good.
