Elementary, My Dear Thompson: Geography Lessons with Dallas' Own Miss Casey As She Makes a Run for the Border

"I live in Texas, I'm close to the border. I actually have quite a bit of knowledge working with Latin food."

Well, possums, what with the skunk strip and the waterworks, we guess there's a reason she keeps on sending us over the borderline.

Unless she meant "the border" as in "let's make a run for the border...." Taco Bell?

Former Texan here. First off, Texas is big and Texans measure distances differently than, say, Rhode Islanders. I think many Dallasites probably think they're influenced by Texas's border with Mexico. And Dallas has a whole lot of excellent Mexican and Mexican-influenced food (not as much as in the Texas cities farther south, but plenty). Casey should actually have had plenty of exposure to Mexican food and therefore _should_ have been able to deal with that challenge effectively. Why she screwed it up has probably got nothing to do with perceptions of nearness to or distance from the border.
