I'm so happy! Hung's genuine happiness was contagious. I loved everything about this episode, especially the little exchange between Rocco and Hung about opening a restaurant.

Poor Casey, at least she went out fighting "I reminded them it wasn't long ago I was kicking their asses".
I thought that Dale's dishes were better, save maybe that lobster. Hung's lack of acidity and salt were there again. He deserved it for sure, but I was salivating for that duck-fat braised lamb.
It was nice to see Hung win. He seemed genuinely happy and excited. It did seem a bit odd to have Marcel there. Almost like ever since he lost last year he's been plotting to somehow make it to the winner's circle.
An end to a great season. Well played.
Dale's scallops. That's all I'm saying.

I was a little disappointed that Dale didn't win, but can't be too mad at Hung winning. He did deserve it, and as much as he was arrogant and cocky, at least wasn't the giant douchebag that Ilan was...
I like Casey and Dale and Hung (all three), but the person whose food I want to eat is Hung. That makes me happy he won.
Is chocolate cake a vietnamese dish? Hmmm...
I'm so glad Hung won! He's a better trained, more consistent chef than any of the others--and it doesn't hurt that he's absolutely gorgeous!
No, drgambit. Chocolate is not a traditional Vietnamese dish. I'm surprised that you'd ask this.
I'm so happy for Hung! The calm, focus, consistency, technical facility and "a Michelin 3-Star" dish in the mix!

Well Done Hung!
For the first time in a Bravo competition I went into the finale episode thinking that I'd be happy with any three of the contestants winning, with Hung as my top choice - the only dissapointment I had was that Casey didn't put out a better showing.
I'm happy with the results, I never felt the Hung-bashing was justified.
Congrats to Hung who earned his victory and who I think is basically a quality person.
Sending he and Casey an invite to an event today.
I think Hung will surprise some snarky people and be superlative in his promotional role as "Top Chef".
Better than Harold. Much much better than Mommy's Little 27-year-old Boy.

One thing that made me like Hung more - he's brash, cocky, arrogant, skilled, flawed. Came up from hard knocks. And people hated him - the same people who love those same traits in a white person.
To be a man of color in this country, you have to either be perfect, or you have to be a clown. A man of color who is a real human being, skills and flaws and all? No love.
Well, I'm glad he won.
What are you talking about, artfulsub? Seems like the whole mantle of Top Chef, as far as Bravo is concerned, is to write a blog on their website, and maybe commit to appearing on the network again at some point. Harold did that perfectly fine.
Though I'm not disgusted with the outcome as I was last year, I am a little confused. It seemed as if the judges deemed two of Dale's dishes (the scallops and the lamb) to be truly OMG and mind-blowing. They had that reaction only to Hung's duck, but not to his opener fish-and-chips (it won its round but didn't rate an OMG). I would give an OMG dish 2 pts, a good dish 1 pt and a bad dish 0 pts. Therefore, Dale got 5 pts by my tally and Hung got 4. Game, set and match to Dale. At least in my universe.

I loved all three contestants and wished they all could win. So I knew I wouldn't be disappointed no matter who got the title.
I'm sure great things are ahead for all of them.
PS... Bravo, you should really get Dale on a show. His observations and comments throughout the season were hilarious!
Well Agnes, i dont think they were going by your OMG numbering system. I think what clinched Hungs win was getting the 3 star michelin comment from Todd English. That was the single highest compliment paid to any of the contestants this season.

I think the other thing besides what anon 2:59 just mentioned is that Dale had a stinker of a dish (the lobster curry thingy), whereas Hung's fourth dish was boring, but perfectly executed and delish, according to Rocco, Ted and Gayle in their blogs.
It didn't seem it was an easy decision since they apparently debated for nine hours.
In addition one of dale's good dishes even by his admission was joint dish with heavy contribution from CJ. So you have Hung with 2 Great dishes 0 lousy dishes and Dale with 1.5 great dishes and 1 lousy dish.
The choice is very clear to me and Hung was the correct choice
By the way the judges looked at it, having a bad dish is not worth 0 points -- in fact, it's probably worth -1 point.
Consistency seems to be a huge part of the judging criteria. Dale didn't have that -- he thought his disliked dish was suitable (he had in fact, tasted it,) but the judges despised it, with Tom going as far as saying that it was "inedible." Hung didn't have that problem. Sure, he may have not had a 2nd "OMG" dish, but he did show the judges that he is a more consistent chef.
Anyone listen to Caseys interview on Chow. Geez and people call Hung arrogant.
I cant believe the people who STILL call Hung arrogant after he clearly proved himself the last 2 episodes. The guy is on FIRE. He's passionate, and an exemplary techician and chef. While Dale surprised me to all ends, the right chef won - I would argue that Hung is probably the strongest chef of all season winners.
i have to second the comment's explaining the likely rationale behind hung's win. while it was quite close, i thought it was pretty clear that hung had the stronger showing head to head.
and i definitely agree that hung seems like he's the strongest chef out of the 3 seasons. definitely better than ilan's uninspired ass. thank god they bounced back with a winner with some credibility and clear skill.

I just rewatched last night and a couple of other comments.
One -- on the duck dish, Michelle Bernstein said something like, "I'm actually jealous." that's high praise indeed! Go, Hung.
And on the other hand, Dale gave CJ way too much credit, gracious guy that he is. If you watch, he's giving CJ directions on what to do, what ingredients to use, etc. CJ might have cooked, but the plan was Dale's and isn't that what a top chef does?
Well, I'm not sure rewarding Hung for consistency all season is consistent with how the judges were often rationalizing their decisions on their blogs. And I don't recall them saying that performance throughout the season was a factor in the final decision.
I can appreciate how different people accord different values to the dishes presented in the final round. I think I felt that Dale displayed genuine creativity and leadership qualities. In previous episodes this season and in previous seasons, that counted for a lot.
L'gag. I hate it when lying little weasels win. I was hoping that Dale would go all the way - especially since I could never find the link to vote for him for Fan Favorite. :-(

But the judges, in fact, did not reward Hung for "consistency all season". They did reward him for the consistency of quality of his four dishes in the Finale.

Indeed, "lying little weasels" are so tiresome. I wonder, however, what show and winner you're describing since none of the 3 finalists on Top Chef fit that description.
I thought it was a nice ending. I really would like to taste some of these creations. Great job Hung! And trademark the monkey. : )
In my universe, an OMG dish gets +3 points, a good dish gets +1 point, and a WTF dish gets -5 points. So if Dale had two OMG dishes, one good dish and that braised lobster gnocchi inedibility, that makes 2 points.
Hung had one OMG dish, and three good dishes, so that makes 6 points.
I guess Hung is the winner in my universe.
In my world:
OMFG dish = 3 pointer
OMG dish = 2 pointer
MG = 1 pointer
Jesus, WTF is this? = -3
WTF!?! = -2
Yuck! = -1
