Anthony Bourdain: Padma Lakshmi Unfit to Host “Top Chef,” Much Less Be the New Secretary of State

Possums, why is this man laughing?

Well, now we know why, and are certain he won't be back on Top Chef.

According to the Miami New Times, professional provocateur Anthony Bourdain had less than kind words to say about our Padma, finding her the hostess with the leastest:

"...Bourdain said he was a huge fan of host and fellow chef Tom Colicchio but snubbed co-host...Padma Lakshmi. Jabbing at the beauty’s intelligence, he said she wouldn’t be his first choice for Barack Obama’s cabinet...[sic]or to host a show."

Welcome to Miami, bienvenido a Meow-mi.

With his chain smoking and drinking habits, Bourdain is unfit to be criticizing anyone on Top Chef. I'd rather look at Padma's spicy chicken breasts than Bourdain's blackened Cajun lungs any day.

I so agree with Anthony.

I don't know what people see in her. Sorry. Her manner seems so posed and inauthentic.

I happen to heart the silver fox and wish he were a permanent judge on Top Chef.

I agree that Padma is the worst thing about Top Chef. I can't imagine why they chose her in the first place, or why they keep her. I'd never heard of her before she appeared genie-like in Season Two, and I am a devoted foodie.

She's like a noodle that's been cooked too long...limp and bland, only she seems to think she's perfectly al dente.

Not that somebody's smoking or drinking has anything to do with their food knowledge (have you ever met a chef who doesn't do both?), Sacto Floyd, Tony quit smoking (mostly) a year ago after he had a kid.

Meanwhile, I disagree with the Padma-haters—and I'm freakin' gay, so I don't care about her hotness. I think she's funny, smart, laconic, AND hot.

In response to the last comment. I'm not a Padma hater at all. As a straight girl I'd just prefer to see the silver fox as a judge as opposed to Padma because I think he's HOT.

I have nothing against Padma.
BUT...
All prospective Top Chefs absolutely tremble at the mention of Anthony and burst with glee at his slightest compliment.

That says something... and makes for great television.

Now...
Does Padma illicit even an iota of that response?
Negative.

He is food royalty; she is a talking head.

For that reason, he should still make his 3-4 appearances per season WITH Padma there, despite awkwardness... because that's more great television.

Padma as with Katie Joel are not qualified to be hosts other than the fact that they are young and good-looking with celebrity connections in the industry. Anyone with money and a bit of fame can publish a cookbook these days. I highly doubt that Padma is a "top chef" nor does she seem to have very much knowledge about food on the show. She just goes along with what everyone else is saying and she's never been a food critic or writer so why is she hosting the show? Please get someone from a food magazine to host the show from now on. Someone who at least knows what they are talking about.

I absolutely agree with No2Padma. Katie Lee and Padma are merely pretty faces to endorse otherwise common commercial crap. Read: cookbooks. Such is marketing. So they have books, but can they cook? It's like Heidi Klum being host of a fashion show. What other credentials does she have to be the host of Project: Runway other than the fact that she wears clothes, and may have walked down the runway in her heyday. I wanna hear what Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia have to say-to me they're the credible sources. They provide technical insight and a more intelligent point of view. Same thing with Top Chef. I'd rather hear what Tom Colicchio and Gail are saying. And especially Anthony. Brutal Bourdain is not afraid to speak his mind and make it lyrically sound at the same time. It seems like anyone can be a judge these days. Anyone can say they like or dislike something. How boring, safe and generic. Be bold and tell me why and how. That's what makes a show more credible, brings in viewers, and keeps me engaged.

And funny what charmingdinnerguest said about Padma being posed and inauthentic. I think that every time I watch the show.

Good post. I was wondering what had happened to Anthony Bourdain.

Padma has nothing on Anthony as far as culinary backgrounds go. He is not only an amazing chef but also has amazing experience from traveling the globe. On the other hand , padma knows how to cook what? As for her book who's to say someone didn't put those recipes together for her and just slapped her pictures on it? So actually its her that needs to pack her knifes and go back to doing whatever she was doing before, oh wait that's nothing! What a joke.

I couldn't stand that woman from the first moment I saw her. She was talking about things in her life on Access Hollywood tonight as-if we all already know. She wanted to "explain" her side.
Have No clue what the hell she was talking about- nor do I care.

Silliness. How does chain smoking preclude him from commenting/criticizing?
